High Tides, Good Vibes

WHAT I'M WEARING:
SWIMWEAR: Gabi Fresh, Swimsuits for All | SUNNIES: Anna-Karin Karlsson | NECKLACE & RINGS: Unleashed | CUFF: Elizabeth & James

Love the skin your in. It’s really that simple. It took me such a long time to actually get to this point. As a body activist, and curve model for different brands it has been a journey. I have worked in the fashion industry since I was 15 years old. I never looked like the models in the magazines I worshiped. I was never a size 2 (and never will be), but I take care of my body and workout everyday.  As an industry, our definition of “beautiful” is so skewed and narrow minded. As a generation, why do we worship fake unobtainable standards? As women why do we body shame one another instead of embracing each others unique beauty?

I believe that every woman is beautiful in her own right. We were all made differently, and everyone is not going to look the same. I am far from perfect, my body is not perfect, but thats ok. I love the woman I have become, I still have a long ways to go but I embrace my own skin and you should too. When people ask me, “how are you so confident?”, I find it a really weird question. I own my look, my body, my energy.

Going to the beach should be fun. Wear what makes you FEEL GOOD. Wear something that makes you feel sexy and comfortable in your own skin. When I choose a bathing suit, I want it to highlight my best features. I loved working with Swimsuits for All and Gabi Fresh. She was one of the first curly bloggers EVER, and is endlessly serving good vibes and a shit ton of confidence. I love her new swim collection because it’s sexy and fun. This black sheer hips/ zip front one piece reminds me of a look from the James Bond movie. I love the details on the sides, it shows just the right amount of skin, and most importantly I feel great in it.

OWN YOUR BODY, OWN YOUR LOOK… until next time xo

Endless Summer

WHAT I'M WEARING:
DRESS & SHOES: NY & Co. | Jewelry: Kara Ross | Sunnies: ASOS

The biggest fashion trend of Summer 2017 definitely has to be STRIPES ON STRIPES. Literally stripped everything. Different color stripes, patterns and angles. I am dressed in head to toe by style partner New York & Co., getting me from “desk to dinner” effortlessly. Elegance is just something that never goes out of style.

I love this mixed patterned striped belt dress because of the asymmetrical ruffle, and latin flare. I have seen more brands influenced by Latin America this Summer on cuts and styles. It hits all of the right curves and highlights my favorite body features. Notice that the larger stripes are on the top, and bottom half are super thin angled stripes which are flattering to the eye.

I paired this dress with white leather stiletto mules, my favorite Kara Ross heritage gemstone jewels and rose-gold reflective aviators. These hoops are from the UNLEASHED x Serena Williams Collection we worked on in 2016, one of my fav memories! I threw up my hair in a low chynguion and left a few pieces in the front to wand, easy peasy 15 min or under styling is how I like to roll in the Summer. My life is constantly on the go, never a dull moment so getting dressed should be effortless.

My best advice is wear what makes you FEEL GOOD. If you feel good, it shows and resonates with everyone in the room. So work it! ..Until next time xo

Pursuit of Magic

WHAT I'M WEARING:
SKIRT: Cynthia Rowley | BLOUSE: Zara | SANDALS: ASOS | HANDBAG: Kara Ross Heritage

Been thinking so much lately about how and why people come into your life. Does everyone serve a purpose? No matter how prepared you think you are, no matter how much you plan, life has it’s own plans for you. Keep manifesting your way, surrounding yourself with people who light up your path, and follow your instincts. It always has a funny way of working out, even when it throws us for a loop, after-all it’s about perspective.

I am constantly on the pursuit on magic in all areas throughout my life. How can we participate more fully in the shit of consciousness that is happening around us? I’ve found that when I’m around the right people and my thoughts are positive, it radiates a light and I leave a little magic. Summer hasn’t even started yet, and it’s this exciting feeling of something new and unknown. What will it bring? New adventures, new memories and new experiences.

My summer’17 style is actually simple, a new take on basics. Lots of printed flare skirts, loose fit choker blouses, baby cross-body bags and block heels. I am adding a lot of white to my Summer wardrobe, keeping it classic and cool with a slight modern touch. I love wearing skirts with a cute top, so many options to style this look different ways.

Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

WHAT I'M WEARING:
DRESS + SUNGLASSES + SHOES = ASOS  *Head to Toe* | Jewelry: Kara Ross | Speedy Bag: Louis Vuitton

The 10th year anniversary of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic couldn’t have been more perfect. The weather was stunning, the fashion was on point and the champagne was flowing. Where else can  you have an excuse to drink VEUVE at 11am without anyone judging you?! I really enjoy attending this event each year, which is held in Liberty State Park and has a spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline. It usually falls on the weekend after Memorial Day, and it is a chance to bust out your fascinators/floppy hats and MUCHO florals. I decided to dress in ASOS head to toe this year. I fell in love with this parrot printed ruffle midi dress and knew it would be the perfect look. I paired it with satin buckle mules and white reflector framed cat eyes.

The afternoon was beautiful, and even included a special performance by Alicia Keys. When she started to sing NEW YORK it was kind of nostalgic (especially after 4 bottles of champagne in). I am so lucky to live in this amazing city, to be surrounded by wonderful friends and to share afternoons in the sunshine. EVERY SATURDAY SHOULD BE LIKE THIS! If you have never attended the polo classic before, I highly suggest you give it a chance.

UNLEASHING INDIA

Location: High Line, NYC | Photographer: Corey Rousse

WHAT I'M WEARING:

Over the past 10 months I have been working on an amazing project with our Founder, Kara Ross, and awesome UNLEASHED WORLD team. We have been lining up the pieces to a beautiful complicated puzzle empowering female artisans in impoverished communities, designing products that will resonate and commissioning those women to shine a spotlight on their talents. Our vision is finally coming to life in Bareilly, India and it’s all unfolding this Summer ’17.

This has literally been the most challenging + rewarding work I have ever done in my life. I believe that working hard for something we don’t care about is called STRESS, but working hard for something we love is called PASSION. My motivation comes from an innate sense within to help + inspire + empower women on a global level. I feel so lucky to have found my second family, a team that works extremely hard and a calling for something much larger then I could have ever expected. This has been a beautiful journey, and it’s not always perfect. We have ups and downs as a start up, we don’t know everything and some days we are still “figuring it out”. I know one thing for sure, we LOVE what we do and are going to make a positive impact on this world.

I wanted to share our story and more info on the movement because it’s something I get to live and breathe everyday.

OUR STORY & MISSION

Our story started in 2015, when CEO & Founder Kara Ross decided to take the biggest risk of her professional career by pivoting into her passion. Kara Ross is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and an award winning fine jewelry designer whose work is recognized by the White House and art museums across the country. Kara is a certified gemologist and sits on the board of  the CFDA and Georgetown University.  Kara is a member of both Women Moving Millions, and the Harvard Kennedy School Women & Public Policy. Kara Ross has sold to top international retailers over the years including Harrods, Selfridges, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue to name a few.

Our mission is to UNLEASH women’s potential globally by creating opportunities to break the poverty cycle through education and job creation. We are designing product for the Western Market, commissioning talented female artisans and bringing it to market with top retailers. We consider UNLEASHED a profits with a “purpose” company, as we are taking the net profits and giving them back to our non profit partners and Microfinance funds. Our 2017 non profit partners are Dress for Success and Girl Up. All Microfinance funds for 2017 will be dispersed to Indian Female Artisans + Entrepreneurs through KIVA

We have identified a collective of women in India within a town called Bareilly, which is South of Delhi. The product (organic cotton + beaded/embroidered ready- to-wear) will be created by a collective of artisan women. The women are empowered through beading because they get to stay home, take care of their family and become completely self-reliant. We even opened up bank accounts for each woman. Each artisan is paid over minimum wage. The design inspiration is the BINDI, an important part of the Indian culture. The Bindi is an everlasting circle, representing endurance and strength. We like to say it represents the universal connectivity of women.

Why job creation platforms?
Over a year ago our CEO Kara Ross made a visit to Cape Town, South Africa. She spent time meeting with women in extremely impoverished townships and discovered a collective of women working on children’s clothing. We commissioned over 18 women within two townships to customize a line of children’s clothing which we sold here in the US online and through the Kara Ross boutique. We saw the direct impact of employing women, giving them opportunity and strengthening their self-worth. This initiative inspired the UNLEASHED team to focus all of our energy and resources on helping female artisans globally.

Why are we UNLEASHING INDIA in 2017?
The culture. The political landscape. The poverty. The women.

What is KIVA?
KIVA is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 and based in San Francisco, with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. We celebrate and support people looking to create a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.By lending as little as $25 on Kiva, anyone can help a borrower start or grow a business, go to school, access clean energy or realize their potential. For some, it’s a matter of survival, for others it’s the fuel for a life-long ambition.

Is UNLEASHED a non-profit organization?
UNLEASHED is not a non-profit organization or 501(c)(3), we are a social impact brand committed to donating net profits to support our non profit partners and job creation initiatives. We like to call this “profits with a purpose”.

How is UNLEASHED funded?
UNLEASHED is primarily a self-funded business, with annual support from best-in-class corporate partners who believe in our mission. In addition, through the sales of UNLEASHED product we are able to raise extra funds to support our organization, non profit partners and various global initiatives.

How much do you expect to give your two non-profit partners for 2017?
UNLEASHED is committed to giving at least $20k to each of our two non profit partners for 2017, GIRL UP and Dress for Success.

How do I support?

Don't Underestimate Me

WHAT I'M WEARING:
SHIRT: Millionaires | LEGGINGS: Lulu Lemon | SNEAKERS: Jibs | JACKET: Zara | SUNNIES: Boohoo | Backpack: French Connection | JEWELRY: Kara Ross  | MAKEUP: Eyebrows, Wunder2 Gel

The conversation has become more clear- women are in a powerful place. We have the ability to speak our minds, stand up for our rights and break traditional societal norms. As a woman living in New York working hard and following my dreams, I have this long standing goal to inspire other women. To open their eyes and see their self worth, to love their bodies no matter what size and to not take any shit. To stop settling for men that are still so clearly lost on what they want, to stop working at a job you hate and to take the initiative to change anything that is not making you happy.

Often times us strong women get labeled as “intimidating”, I am here to tell you never change who you are for someone else.  I can’t be anything else then myself, authentically at all times. I can’t bite my tongue or be fake. I know what I want and I go after it without hesitation. This self-confidence is something that is always evolving over time, growing into your own skin. I am eternally grateful to the wonderful women in my life who lift me up and empower me everyday. Sisterhood is an extremely powerful bond, and I am finally starting to see the change in the next generation of strong women. Instead of looking at other women as competition, let’s help each other grow and be our best selves. As women we take on so much, we multitask and handle it all. We have children, crush it in our careers, balance family and work life and are the glue that holds everything together.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A WOMAN
